Our Ambassadors

INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION

“If you can see it, you can be it.”

We know how important it is for children to have role models, and we have some of the best in our Spencer Lynx Ambassadors. They are all past or present England and GB Internationals.

We believe passionately in offering opportunities around the sport, including for children to meet their heroes.

Our Ambassadors are: 

Rhys Smith: Rhys is from Streatham, South London, and local to Spencer Lynx. He is the founder of Hockey Inner City. Rhys made his senior international debut in 2018, and has recently stepped down from international hockey. He currently plays in Germany for Hamburger Polo Club. A huge thank you Rhys for all his support, from Day 1 of the Spencer Lynx Journey. 

Emily Defroand: Originally from Hornchurch, Emily lives in Havering, East London. She started playing hockey at the age of 7, and made her senior international debut in 2017. Emily has recently retired from international hockey, but remains passionate about inclusivity in sport. 

Darcy Bourne: A striker for the GB and England teams. Darcy started playing hockey at the age of 10, just like our Spencer Lynx members! She captained the U16 and U18 England squads, and joined the GB and England senior teams in 2022. Darcy plays for Surbiton, in the England Hockey Premier Division.

James Mazarelo: Agile and acrobatic Goal Keeper for the GB and England teams. Originally from Manchester, James started playing in goal at primary school. He went on to represent England U16 and U18, making his senior debut at 21. James won Bronze at the Commonwealth Games 2022, and currently plays for Surbiton, in the England Hockey Premier Division.
